Of course we can’t be done with this yet.
I spent all day today cleaning out my room, hanging out with former (!) students, and hugging crying seventh graders. We got all my stuff into boxes, with one kid starting a timer and making me work when kids would stop by to distract me. A big team of kids brought all my stuff down and packed it into my car. A group of boys attempted to teach me how to play basketball. We took pictures and played music and had a good time.
And then the one kid I wasn’t expecting came back into my room. (See third paragraph, here.) If you read my blog regularly you’ve heard about him a million times, because he has tried to ruin my life all year. He walked into the room, looked at me, and just said,
“Ms. Mathinaz, thank you. For not giving up on me. For everything.” And then he gave me a huge hug.
