When kids are rude to one another, sometimes the best consequence is making them write something nice to the person they just insulted. They absolutely hate doing it, the insulted kids love receiving it, and it provides endless entertainment for me.
Here’s my current favorite example. I’m sure the boy’s remark wasn’t meant or taken badly (they’re very good friends and always mess around) but I didn’t want comments like that in my classroom. This is what I got:
10 Nice Things About F.
1) he not fat
2) (I crossed this one out, since “He not gay” isn’t my favorite type of compliment)
3) he not dum
4) he is sexy HaHaHa
5) he nice
6) he is funny
7) he good at Basketball
8 ) he does not fight like a girl
9) he does not eat his poo
10) he tall
he is a goo homy
PLEASE go back and re-read number 3. That’s the worst word ever to misspell.
Then read number 9. Welcome to middle school boys.
And now the last one, which was his replacement for number 2. He was out of ideas, so I asked if F. is a good friend to him. He said yes and wrote that. The translation is “he is a good homie.”
I laugh and laugh and laugh.
On an unrelated note, now go watch this. I cry.
