Another great day in Period 3. I never expected a streak like this from these kids. We were working in groups of three or four on projects. If you aren’t a teacher, please try to understand that getting middle schoolers to behave and work when they’re sitting with their friends and not being directly instructed is the challenge of a lifetime. Granted, we’re working at a slightly lower level than my other classes, and the kids knew they were getting a lunch detention if they so much as stood up without permission. But regardless, we were sitting still, actually getting things done, and functioning to make this teacher proud.
Of course, they just can’t be a good group forever. We hit the one-hour mark, I must have turned my back for a tenth of a second, and suddenly the screaming started. Turns out a boy had thrown a marker at a girl, hit her in the head, and made her cry. On a dare. Whyyyyyyyyyyyyy can’t things just go well??
